Doing Good While Doing Business

In clinical development, we spend a lot of time talking about data, trial design, endpoints, and probability of success. It’s the language of how we make progress. But for many of us, the reason we’re here isn’t abstract. It’s personal.

For me, cancer is not just an area of focus. Like so many others, I’ve seen firsthand how it touches families, how it changes the course of lives, and how urgent the need is for better answers. That reality stays with you. It shapes how you think about the work, and what kind of company you want to build.

At PhaseV, our mission is to improve how clinical trials are designed and executed to help promising therapies reach patients faster. A significant part of that work is in oncology. But if we’re honest, progress doesn’t start with better trials. It starts with brave ideas, and the people willing to pursue them.

That’s why supporting the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation matters to us.

Through our sponsorship of the Timmerman Traverse, and by committing 5% of net revenues from new oncology work this quarter to the Foundation, we’re supporting the earliest stages of breakthrough thinking. These are scientists who are not just improving what exists, but challenging assumptions and opening entirely new paths.

The Traverse itself feels like a fitting metaphor. It’s physically demanding, uncertain, and requires resilience and trust in the people around you. Advancing cancer research feels much the same. There are no straight lines, just persistence, collaboration, and a belief that the effort is worth it.

We’re proud to have Hamza Sheikh, VP of Business Development, representing PhaseV on the trek this year. But more broadly, we’re proud to be part of a community that believes impact and business are not separate pursuits.

For me, this is what “doing good while doing business” really means. It’s not about a one-time initiative. It’s about building a company that reflects the reasons you got into this field in the first place, and making sure those reasons show up in what you do. And if that resonates, we’re always open to continuing the conversation.
